Big Apple Perry Tastings
From beneath the trees that gave us the fruit to produce our Perry; sample the juice of our labours. Many of the paddocks at the Yew Tree historically were orchards and in an effort to save our trees cuttings were taken and grafted onto rootstock planted adjacent to the existing trees which you will be able to see and are growing well.
Our four varieties are:-
Aylton Red – exclusive to our Parish
Dymock Red – a critically endangered variety, one of Gabe Cook’s favourites, (his heritage claims from Dymock).
Blakeney Red – a widely available perry pear.
Hellen’s Early – originating from Hellen’s house in Much Marcle where one still grows in their avenue. Typically this tree blossoms and fruits 3-4 weeks ahead of other perry trees.
There will also be a display and information under the trees about our all-important pollinators, with whom we cannot do without.
You will be able to visit the cellars of the Yew Tree where the perry is fermented and bottled on the farm.
Perry Sales
Perry will be available to purchase – be warned we only have a limited supply.
From our family butchers shop, Halfords Butchers, you will be able to sample and purchase our perry infused award winning sausages.
Skittles
Weather permitting we will be holding a traditional English grass skittles competition in the paddock, the highest score each day will receive a bottle of perry. In the event of a tie, straws will be drawn!
