Cider and Perry Trials 2009Where: Putley Village Hall, Herefordshire, HR8 2QN When: Saturday May 2nd 1.00pm - 5pm Who: Craft cider and perry makers. The event took place with 56 entrants submitting 154 entries. It was generally agreed that this year's entry was very strong and the voting in a number of the classes was very close. Congratulations to Ross on Wye Cider and Perry Company for their acheivement of Cider Champion - just pipping Gabe Cook on points! Once again James Marsden wins the Perry Champion award (but look out James, the competition is getting closer!) and finally newcomer, Andrew Dean was clear winner in the Novice Cider class. Well done to everyone - we had a very enjoyable day. This year the awards were presented by James Crowden, author of Ciderland which has won a couple of awards recently: the 2008 André Simon Book Award in the Drink category and International Association of Culinary Professionals in the States. The list of the winners is available here.
