As the flowers set for this year’s apples, the cider made from last autumn’s crop becomes ready to taste…. Blossomtime in Putley - A Springtime CelebrationHere is a special springtime opportunity to enjoy the lovely countryside and orchards of the Marcle Ridge area of Herefordshire, where local orchards are famous both for their cider fruit and their dessert and culinary fruit. The events are based around a grand cider tasting in Putley Village Hall, where you will find an array of traditional ciders and perries from Herefordshire and surrounding counties, together with some of the cider makers for you to meet. The cider and perry makers will have taken part in our annual Cider and Perry Trials, which take place the same weekend. Blossomtime is not just for cider enthusiasts, there are also apple juices to taste. You can enjoy a walk through the orchards around Putley, with or without a guide, then refresh yourselves with excellent homemade food. Walk across the orchards to Aylton to visit the refurbished Manorial Barn and Aylton Church, This event takes place every year over the first bank holiday weekend in May which in 2011 will be the 1st and 2nd of May. Details of previous years' events can be viewed via the links on the left. In 2008 a reporter from The Guardian also visited as part of an item on Herefordshire. Her article is available at Guardian On-line. |
