Perry making at HellensFor an afternoon, a day or a full weekend – The Big Apple is a special opportunity to enjoy the autumn countryside in the Herefordshire parishes on the Marcle Ridge a few miles to the west of the market town of Ledbury.

The local orchards are famous for their cider fruit and their excellent eating apples.

Every year since 1989, the award-winning communities of these tiny parishes have put together a collection of small rural events based in and around Much Marcle, to enable you to share with us in our tradition of apple growing and cider making.

This event takes place every year over a weekend in early October. Details of this year's and previous years' events can be viewed via the links on the left.

The Big Apple wins award

Each year during National Cider Month in October the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) gives the coveted "Pomona" award to a group, individual or business that works toward establishing real cider and perry as a premium product.

In 2007 the award was presented to The Big Apple Association, "a Herefordshire based group dedicated to promoting English orchards, apples and cider".
